Recent studies have brought a fresh perspective of what may cause the illness; the studies have shown a connection between gut bacteria and the disease. The journal Pain published a that in research done showed individuals who suffer from the disease, found in the gastrointestinal tracts the bacteria changes. During the study 20, various bacteria species all had changed, making the amounts higher or lower. The study done in Canada used 156 participants to test their urine, saliva, stool, and blood; the purpose was to examine and compare to healthier individuals. Seventy-seven of the participants suffered from the disease itself.
